The next time you check your
site, you may find a Review/Approve button
waiting on your home page and - when you click on it - a
Post-Dispatch reporter applying for membership.
Throughout the year 2000 postnet.com will be working
with the P-D newsroom to take better advantage of the
Web as a tool for reporting the news - and also for
gathering it. Reporters will likely be paying much more
attention to calendar events than in the past. And they
want even more.
If a reporter becomes a member of your community
group, he or she will receive the same automatic email
updates your other members do. Every time you add an
event to your calendar or a posting to your page, the
reporter will be informed of what's new and given a link
to visit it. It's an efficient way for reporters to keep
their radar scanning activity out in the community, and
to make sure they hear about interesting things just as
they're beginning to happen.
When anyone applies for membership to your site,
you'll get a chance to see their user name,
first name, last name and email
address before you let them in. We've encouraged
reporters to make it clear from their username that they
represent the newspaper (although you might want to
check). So if you've ever wanted a journalist at your
monthly meetings and keeping up on your stuff, here's
your cyber-chance - although, of course, you can say No
if you'd prefer. Our staff won't be
offended.
